Port Hope's
Cranberry Road overpass was a sea of red and white Friday as the remains of the
80th Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan travelled the stretch of Highway 401
between Trenton and Toronto known as the Highway of Heroes. Residents came out
in droves to honour Bombardier Jérémie Ouellet and show their support for his
family as the cortege headed from CFB Trenton to Toronto, where an autopsy will
be conducted. Bombardier Ouellet, 22, who served with the 1st Regiment Royal
Canadian Horse Artillery (1 RCHA), died Tuesday, March 11 in Kandahar. His body
was found in his sleeping quarters.
