There are always things you will remember
forever at each repatriation ceremony. On this day, I will forever
remember Sgt. Prescott Shipway's four-year-old daughter and six-year-old son
cries while dignitaries, and fellow soldiers paid tribute. I'll remember
his four-year-old daughter showing the Governor General the flower she had prior
to placing it on top of his casket. I'll remember Sgt. Shipway's wife
kneeling to his daughter and pointing the flag draped casket being carried by
soldiers to a hearse on the tarmac. I'll remember Sgt. Shipway's wife
holding onto the four-year-old daughter tightly as the young child cried and
looked back at the hearse as she held a teddy bear. So many tragic
memories of Canadian heroes.
